How do sleep and screen time affect your child’s learning and development?
What promotes academic achievement? What improves emotional wellbeing?
You want your children to be happy, healthy, confident, and to do well at school
And, for all of these things, you know it matters what they see and how they spend their time. But, parenting is hard, and some questions are confusing, like:
How much sleep do children really need?
How much screen time is too much?
Is homework more important than exercise?
In this groundbreaking research funded by the Australian Research Council, we want your help answering these questions.
Is this project for you?
We are looking for children in the middle of primary school:
Is your child in Year 2–4?
Living in Sydney, the Central Coast or Wollongong?
What the project involves:
It’s hard for parents to know what their children do with their time.
We don’t remember what our kids did all day yesterday. Our kids don’t remember either.
In this groundbreaking study we use secure, encrypted wearable cameras to measure what children are doing, and a research-grade FitBit-like device to measure sleep and physical activity.
With best-in-class privacy controls, the study involves:
Measuring what children see
Children wearing an encrypted wearable camera for four days
Measuring what children do
Children wearing a waterproof, FitBit-like device to measure sleep and physical activity
Measuring how children are doing
Children and parents each answering 15-20 minutes of questions on an iPad
